It is always great to wake up to a Happy Start and McDonald’s Malaysia has done just that the other day on 13 April 2015. In conjunction with its third National Breakfast Day campaign, McDonald’s Malaysia has achieved yet another milestone by reaching out to more than 230,000 Malaysians. This year’s celebration also witnessed McDonald’s making the day a happier one for teachers by serving 11,650 educators with a McDonald’s breakfast – as a token of appreciation for their contributions in nurturing the nation’s children.

“The National Breakfast Day is McDonald’s commitment to underline the importance of a wholesome breakfast. Themed “Start Your Morning Happy” this year, we are delighted that the celebration has managed to evoke smiles on the faces of our country’s early risers today,” said Stephen Chew, Managing Director of McDonald’s Malaysia.

“The celebration this year is also a special one with McDonald’s making a concerted effort to honour our teachers. Every day, teachers rise up early to educate our kids. Their sacrifice and commitment towards nation building is priceless and McDonald’s is proud to be serving them today,” added Stephen.

The McDonald’s National Breakfast Day campaign this year saw more than 230,000 free Egg McMuffins served to Malaysians from all walks of life. The nationwide breakfast giveaway was hosted by participating McDonald’s restaurants across Malaysia. Additionally, McDonald’s had also arranged for personalised deliveries of 11,650 Sausage McMuffins to teachers in various schools nationwide.

During the week preceding this year’s National Breakfast Day celebration, McDonald’s Malaysia had also rewarded unsuspecting early risers by sponsoring 5,000 free LRT rides at KL Sentral and 5,000 free toll pass at Tol Awan Besar, Kesas Highway.

Asian Food Channel "Back To The Streets"

On Tuesday, July 24th at 9.00PM, The Asian Food Channel (AFC) will premiere its first ever, fully produced Malaysian travelogue, airing regionally in Asia to more than 45 million AFC viewers in ten different territories. Viewers in Malaysia can catch the AFC Original Production nationwide on Astro channel 703.

The twelve-part series (12x30mins) which was created in collaboration with BERJAYA University College of Hospitality (BERJAYA UCH), and features two bubbly and charismatic hosts: Malaysian celebrity chef, Chef Malcolm Goh and Malaysian radio DJ and host, Ms Tham Zher Peen. They play the role of secret agents, going undercover on the streets of Kuala Lumpur searching for local culinary delights. On their mission, they interact with stall operators and cooks, trying to get them to share their priceless nuggets of culinary knowledge, food insights and even to divulge their cherished trade secrets.

With the valuable information gathered, Zher Peen and Chef Malcolm rushes back to BERJAYA University College of Hospitality’s Kitchen, where Chef Malcolm, with the assistance of Zher Peen and his students, they utilize the knowledge that he has learned “on the streets” to create his own inspired variations of the dishes.

Maria Brown, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the Asian Food Channel is delighted with the premiere of another successful AFC Original Series Production, “The Asian Food Channel is fortunate to have a large and very loyal following in Malaysia, a large percentage of whom, have expressed the hope that AFC would further feature the amazing cuisine that is available across the country. We really saw this as an opportunity to explore the rich culinary heritage that is present in Malaysia and at the same time, showcase Malaysian local talent pan regionally and even globally. Chef Malcolm and Zher Peen can only be described as a “passionate and dynamic duo" and I strongly believe that they will capture the hearts of all our AFC viewers easily.”

BERJAYA UCH Chief Operating Officer, Mae Ho remarked, “It has been a great pleasure working alongside Asian Food Channel, and we are very excited to see how AFC viewers will react to this AFC Original Production. BERJAYA University College of Hospitality has always been a strong supporter of promoting, as well as educating the people about Malaysian cuisine. We are extremely proud to witness how far Chef Malcolm, who is one of our own Culinary Arts Supervising Chef has come. An innovative and forward-thinking University College with substance begins with the drivers behind the education wheel. I am proud to say that the education drivers who are steering this University College are all moving towards the vision of BERJAYA UCH – to ‘Inspire Lives and Widen Horizons’.”

Chef Malcolm is no stranger to camera, he first saw his television career come to life when he starred in another AFC Original Production, Great Dinners of the World, which featured him and three other highly talented Asian chefs as they travelled to France and Scotland where they cooked for guest lists full of society elite and even the royalty. When he is not in front of the camera, Chef Malcolm works as a Supervising Chef at BERJAYA UCH where he conducts theory and practical classes for students majoring in Culinary Arts.

Zher Peen too has had her fair share of stardom; She is not only is the host of 8TV Quickie, a 15-minute variety show, she is also a celebrity DJ at Fly FM where she hosts Fly30, a 3 hour radio programme that airs daily. In addition, she has also been featured in campaigns for international brands such as Converse, Levi’s and Nike.

Food We Consume

We had a simple dinner tonight over at Plus Plus Restaurant Setapak, just the two of us. That was when I suddenly realize that we ordered two very contrasting dishes. Check it out below.

soup Mee at plus plus setapak restaurant

This was Janice's Mee with soup. A rather healthy dish if you asked me. I rarely take soupy dishes, something I should change in order to get a healthier body I guess. Check out what I had.

Satay at plus plus restaurant Setapak

Satay! Lots of it for hungry me. It was priced at rm0.70 each which was pretty pricey but I still went ahead to order it because I had the sudden craving.

Then it hit me, how in the world am I suppose to slim down with food like these? This post shall serve as a reminder to myself not to binge too much on fatty food and hopefully change my diet to healthier food.

Domino's Pizza Lunch

Well, thanks to some good performances for the past quarter by my company, the bosses decided to treat the bunch of us some really good domino's pizza.

Domino's pizza being eaten

I was sort of late to the feast though, so by the time I arrived at the conference room, people were already digging into the food. It was an awesome meal, plus since it was a treat, the food tasted better!

Breakfast At D'Klasik

I don't have a habit of having heavy meals for breakfast when I'm at work, but once in a while there comes a time when I just want to indulge myself in some early morning breakfast.

Just opposite my work place is this restaurant called D'Klasik serving Malay dishes. Well this morning I had the urge to order their Maggi Goreng. To complement the Maggi Goreng I ordered their "Telur dadar". Check out below on what I had this morning. The price came up to be RM5.

Traditional Chinese Pancake

The exact hokkien word for this would be "bang chang kueh" and it's one of my favourite breakfast or tea time snack.

My apologies for not capturing the picture of the pancake itself, but here I attach the picture of the uncle making it.

This stall can be found in the market just behind Penang Free School in Penang. I would say it's really delicious!

Magic Kitchen 1st Avenue Mall

There's a new food court in 1st Avenue Mall, and it looked great to say the least. At least the name is unique enough to capture our attention.

I wasn't really hungry enough to 'makan' there today, so this is the only magic I can get I suppose. The crowd was overwhelming, probably because its the only food court in 1st Avenue Mall. Check it out on level 5 should you drop by here!

Taiwan Sausages With Love

I've always loved Taiwan Sausages, and even though I know it's bad for you if taken excessively, I will still jump at any chance to savor this delighful Asian food.

It's so simple to prepare, just buy the Taiwan sausages from the local market, or any supermarket, drop it in any frying pan, and you have these wonderfully tasty sausages. Would you like some?

Teriyaki Chicken With Rice Sakae Sushi

Sakae Sushi Japanese Restaurant, the cooler version of Sushi King serves a wide variety of Japanese cuisine.

The Teriyaki Chicken set I ordered would be one of my favorite dish from Sakae Sushi. I'm not a fan of raw dishes (eg: raw salmon and all) so this dish fits me perfectly. Coupled with up to 6 chicken portions, the serving size is really generous. At a price of RM18.90, I wouldn't say it's really cheap but this is Japanese food!

Healthy Bean Sprout Dish

One of the things I like about having homecooked meals is the fact the dishes are usually much healthier than the ones you eat outside.

What can be healthier than this dish of bean sprouts, bean curds, with a sprinkling of prawns. Yummy and healthy stuff indeed!!

Mother whipped up this delicious lunch for us, and I really appreciate her for it. Will do the dishes mum, don't worry!

Mee Goreng At Sungai Bakap

I've always found the fried noodles by the roadside stalls very appetizing.

This particular Mee Goreng is fried with the sauces from Mee jawa, the wet type. And because it's fried with those sauces, the taste is awesome to say the least. At RM 3.50, I won't mind going for 2 or 3 more plates!!

Sar Hor Fun At Farlim

{EAV_BLOG_VER:8fc9dc76f17e0087}
Something I had over at Farlim, Penang Island.

I've been told this was the famous sar hor fun so the moment I arrived home, I had to try this dish. At RM 3.80 per plate, it is definitely nice in taste as well as affordable in price.

Duck Rice At Jawi Sungai Bakap

Upon reaching Penang for the holidays, after a long arduous journey through the traffic jam and all, my first thoughts were on food. Crashed over at this coffee shop nearby Janice's house to get a plate of delicious duck rice coupled with some roasted pork meat.
